Water damage that didn't stop

The loss
A burst pipe damaged the main floor while the owners were away. The first assessment covered the flooring and drywall on the surface. What it could see, it addressed. What it couldn't, it missed.
The first pass
- The visible flooring and drywall.
The full claim
- The visible damage.
- Moisture behind the walls and subfloor.
- Flooring that couldn't be patched to match.
- The contents the water reached.
What we did
We documented the moisture that had traveled behind the surfaces, established that the discontinued flooring meant the connected areas had to be made whole rather than patched, and quantified the affected contents before a dollar was negotiated.
The outcome
The settlement accounted for the damage behind the walls and the full affected area, not only the part visible on the surface the day the pipe broke.
Everything looked handled once it dried. What they found behind the walls was the part that would have cost us.
