Public adjusters in Eastpointe & Harper Woods, Michigan.
More than seven in ten homes in both cities were built before 1960, most of them in the 1950s. In the June 2021 storms Harper Woods was hit heavily by basement back-ups, and back-ups were reported in Eastpointe too. Drain lines, framing and finished basements that old shape what a claim costs.
AdjustFair works only for the policyholder, from our Ferndale office, about 10 miles west of Eastpointe and Harper Woods. We read the policy, document the full loss, price the repair the way a contractor would have to build it, and put that number in front of the insurance company with the proof behind it.
Where claims here get underpaid.
Eastpointe sits in Macomb County and Harper Woods in Wayne County, on either side of Eight Mile, but the houses and the serious losses look much alike, and each kind tends to come in short in its own place.
- Sewer back-ups into finished basements. After the June 26, 2021 storm, Detroit's water department named Harper Woods among the communities hit heavily, and in Eastpointe back-ups followed when the Marter pump station, which carries the city's sewage, went down. Category 3 water pushed in from an overrun public sewer usually falls under a back-up endorsement with its own limit, and the paneling, carpet, walls and everything stored below get undercounted when they go to the curb before anyone lists them. If the water came up because the home's own aging line under the house collapsed or broke, that is a fill-up that started in the house and usually gets the full policy instead, and a plumber's written cause usually settles which it was.
- Fire in brick houses and small apartment buildings. In December 2024 a fire in Harper Woods left a family's home as ashes and broken brick with no roof, and in August 2022 a fire destroyed the top half of a four-unit apartment building in Eastpointe and displaced three families. Brick walls can survive a fire while the framing, wiring and floors behind them are ruined, so the estimate has to reach past what still stands. In a small apartment building every household's contents claim has to be built item by item.
- Cars through the front wall. In February 2026 a car knocked off the road at Rein and Norton went through the living room wall of an Eastpointe home, leaving glass and brick across the room, and in April 2019 a car crashing at Stephens and Dale left a giant hole in a single-story house. These claims are often paid for the wall and the window while the floor framing, the wiring and the cracks that run through the brick beyond the opening go undocumented.

The contents were priced as cleanable. Appraisal called them a total loss.
Water backed up into a Sterling Heights home and stood across the lower floor. The first offer treated what it had touched as cleanable. Appraisal disagreed.
Questions we get here.
Our Eastpointe basement backed up in a heavy rain. Is that covered the same as a burst pipe?
Not always. Water pushed in from an overrun public sewer usually falls under a back-up endorsement with its own limit, and some policies leave it out unless that endorsement was added. If the home's own line under the house collapsed or broke instead, the water started in the house and usually gets the full policy. A plumber's written cause, often with a camera inspection, settles which it was.
A car came through the front of my Harper Woods or Eastpointe house. Whose insurance pays?
Often more than one. Michigan no-fault includes property protection insurance, which pays up to $1 million for damage a car does in Michigan to other people's buildings. Your own homeowners policy usually covers vehicle impact too, which matters when the driver leaves or the auto claim stalls. Photograph the damage, keep the police report number, and have the framing checked before repairs start.
How soon can an adjuster get to Eastpointe or Harper Woods?
Both cities sit on Eight Mile, about 10 miles east of our Ferndale office, which is just north of the same road on Woodward. Call the number on this page and someone will explain what to keep and photograph before cleanup starts, and when an adjuster can be at the house, on either side of the county line.
